OSP Shelter Child Enrichment Specialist

Infants, children and youth confront a wide variety of stressful and potentially traumatic events that can impact their ability to cope. These experiences can lead to feelings of fear, confusion, loss of control and isolation that can inhibit their development and have negative effects on their physical and emotional health and well-being.

This position will help children and youth adjust to life in shelter, provide assessment and individualized therapeutic care, prepare children for potential forensic interviews and medical exams, and cope with the trauma of experiencing domestic violence. The goal is to enrich the experience of the child while they are guests of our program, through play, therapeutic intervention, trauma-informed practice, and relationship.

**This position will remain open until filled.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development or related field. Previous experience working with children and youth who have experience trauma or similar role.
  • Experience as a Registered Behavior Technician or with Applied Behavioral Analysis preferred.
  • Previous experience interacting with victims of trauma or domestic violence
  • Team oriented personality
  • Ability to supervise and monitor interactions
  • Valid CA Driver's License
  • Clearance of TB Test, Physical Exam, FBI, CACI, and DOJ

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting – up to 2 hours, not continuously;
  • Standing – up to 4 hours, not continuously
  • Walking – up to 2 hours, not continuously; bending over – up to 1 hour, not continuously
  • Exposure to emotionally disturbed residents who may be physically and verbally violent and require safe physical management.

  • Develop age-appropriate strategies to minimize trauma and increase understanding of a medical diagnosis through treatments plans using therapeutic play, education, preparation, and activities that promote growth and development
  • Advocate for the special needs of children and their families
  • Help children and their families process and cope with their experiences as survivors of domestic violence and child abuse
  • Provide information, support, and guidance to parents and family members
  • Collaborate with the service team to coordinate and manage care

$24-$26 per hour DOE
